To get the most out of Farrell's Ruler Feet, please
read before you start using our templates.
How do you wax your table and the throat of your sewing machine?
I use a plastic or acrylic polish or car wax
Should you put something grippy on the back of your template?
I like to use grip dots they are available HERE
Is it OK to use 505 spray baste to put your quilt sandwich together?
Yes. This is temporary and washes out.
How do you adjust your foot to the proper height?
Lower your feed dogs. see instructional video HERE
Do I need an adapter if I own a Bernina?
You will need a shank adapter before 1996 #77 or after 1996 #75 depending on the machine
Any tips for Phaff users?
You will need to disengage your IDT or even feed. In your settings set the machine for free motion and if you have 3 positions for your pressed foot all the way up, all the way down and there is a center position this is where u need to be to use the foot properly
What are some best practices to move fabric and template together as one?
I suggest you start by just practicing for about a half hour with the machine off and just using the template to move the fabrics around the foot. Start with the cloud template play with it until you are confident.
Usually a half-hour to an hour not use other templates till you get this one peat for the other tools. Once this clicks for you it's really incredibly easy.
Does your tools come with a lifetime warranty?
Our Feet have a limited lifetime warranty however our templates do not. We do not warranty templates as they are plastic and can be broken. We do not do refunds of any kind. We will exchange or offer store credit.
How do I keep the template stable?
Please see the getting started video HERE
As far as thread is concerned what you prefer?
I usually go with a 40 wt. cotton in the top and in the bobbin. I always use a 19/14 Topstitch needle. Be sure it’s a topstitch they are pointier and have a longer eye which prevents thread shred.
Will I have to adjust my tension?
Do not be surprised if you have to adjust your tension. Everything affects tension the type of thread, the fabric, the type of batting everything. Be sure to check it before you start quilting and often as you proceed.
I always suggest you mark where your tension is with some painters tape before you move it so you can get back there when you’re done. Be sure to clean out your bobbin case every third bobbin a dirty bobbin can affect your tension.
What foot will I need if I own a Straight Stitch only machine?
You will need our SSS or super short shank foot and a high/ low adapter. These machines are considered industrial and the needle position is not the same as a regular sewing machine.
What if I own a Viking with the sensor foot?
You have to go into your setting and shut that off.
What if I notice a rough spot in your template?
If you notice a rough spot in your template an emery board or sandpaper will work to smooth it out
Do you have any "How To" training videos?
There are lots of videos on YouTube. Farrell's Country Stitchin Channel
